HOW MANY MASTERS HAVE YOU?
"No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon". Matt. 6: 24
The Scripture above is taken from our Lord's teaching on purposeful living. When He says you cannot serve two masters, I expected His comparison to be God and the devil but instead He says God and mammon (the desire for wealth personified as an evil spirit).
A lot of us believe that we do not have anything to do with serving 'other gods', yet we are not only serving mammon but are being controlled by it. Our desire for wealth is seriously competing with God's place in our lives.
We lie and cheat just because we want to 'make it'.
Well, God desires to bless and make us prosperous. Wealth is one of the fringes of redemption but should never take away our attention from God.
Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Matthew 6:25
Apart from the wanton crave for money and material wealth, there's also the genuine pursuit of wealth in order to make ends meet.
God does not also approve the latter. That's why He says in the scripture above- why are you worrying yourselves for such small things? If I can give you life, why do you believe that taking care of you will be a big deal for Me?
Fear and faithlessness is one of the fundamental reasons we run after the things that should be running after us. Trust God. Serve Him and everything else will serve you.
