Get keys and not 'locks' for 2019

This time of the year is always special; often loaded with fresh hopes, resolutions and revolutions. There’s also the part of our various Church declarations: my year of DOMINION, my year of BREAKTHROUGH, REHOBOATH, New Dawn, etc!

Much as all these are important, the fact remains that life answers to principles and not just declarations. The belief in luck has been locking up a lot of potentials. What we need to attain that 2019 Dominion and breakthrough are keys and not ‘lock’. There’s what we must do to command the physical or even the supernatural. Unfortunately, today most of us Church people are leaving so many things undone and expecting ‘prophecies’ to manifest.

Set yourself apart from the crowd; be extra diligent this year. That way, you will be needing little or no miracles to get to your destination. The crave for miracles is derailing a lot of people. I’ve been watching ‘Under 40 CEOs’ a lot recently. I hear these millionaire young men and women tell the stories of their journeys to the top and they all have one thing in common- diligence.

Do you know a hard-working man? He shall be successful and stand before kings! (Prov. 22:29 TLB)

If we must be honest to ourselves, you’d agree that this generation is demanding so much more from all of us. From smart phones to smart TV sets, smart cars and even smart clothes. Yes smart clothes too. As people living in this ever evolving times, we can’t afford to slack. Get an edge! Dare to be EXCELLENTLY different. Blaze new trails!

Set realistic plans for 2019. It will help to include short term milestones to help you measure your progress and reevaluate if need be.

Also, please do well to be part of the spiritual exercises that are on-going this period in your local assembly. While at it, present your plans to God and begin to work on them!

May the hours and days, weeks and months of 2019 answer to the glory of God in your life.

Happy new year!

The nowadays God

I’m sure you are very familiar with the phrase ‘nowadays Christians’. We almost all know some of the very interesting attributes of these fans of Christ. Yes fans, not followers.

Quite disturbing is the fact that we now have ‘nowadays God’ too. Strange? Let me tell you a little about him. He’s so...o loving that he wouldn’t discipline an erring child. It’s not in his nature to get angry. Hebrews 10:31 isn’t describing him neither is Hebrews 12:29.

The nowadays god gets angry when you talk to people about hell (Mark 9:43, Matt. 13:42, Rev. 20:13-14). In fact it is an abhorration to link him with such wickedness.

Romans 12:1-2 is certainly not inspired by him....it was Apostle Paul in his zealousness that misrepresented him. Just the same way he misrepresented this wonderful god in 1 Cor. 9:26-27. He can never disqualify anyone that cares enough to serve him, no matter how they live their lives. Sadly too, he’s always in need of material things...give him money and he’ll be satisfied. Oh!!!!!

I am not sharing this with you because I believe that you are a nowadays Christian or worship the nowadays god. I only wish that we'll continue to live with the consciousness of the truth that our God is the same yesterday, today and forever.
He is truly all loving and yet HOLY! He is not asking from us anything short of what He asked the Church of old.
The Bible talks expressly about the wrath of God against the disobedient (Col. 3:6). Hell is a place of torment and it’s real (2 Peter 2:4-6).

For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to hell and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment; and did not spare the ancient world, but saved Noah, one of eight people, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood on the world of the ungodly; and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those who afterward would live ungodly;

Souls are perishing right inside the Church today. Men are daily distorting the word of God in a bid to satisty their flesh.
Please, don't join the bandwagon. The Bible is still God's word and our best guide on how to live victorious in these perilous times.

Examine your ways to be sure you haven't started worshipping the nowadays god.  If you have, please make amends today... return to God. His arms are always open to receive us.

Is there what you must do?

Acts Chapter nine is one of the many chapters of the Bible that we all started studying as far back as Primary school days. However, I had an encounter with it again recently.

In verse six (6) of Acts 9, after Jesus had appeared to Saul on his way to Damascus, his first question was “Lord, what do You want me to do?” I would have thought that it was too early in their meeting to start asking what he should do.
More surprising, is the response of our Lord Jesus to Saul- “Arise and go into the city, and you will be told what you MUST do”. I think that even before Saul became converted, he knew how much it is that the Lord desires our service. It could be the reason he didn’t first ask anything other than ‘show me my duty-post’.

I'd like you to ponder a little on this phrase- ‘…you will be told what you MUST do’. Is it possible that there is something that we all MUST do for the Lord? Did the Lord say that to Saul as a punishment for all the terror he had unleashed on the Church? Could it be that He is asking more from us than being caught up in this vicious circle of earning more, spending more, being celebrated, etc.?
The phrase ‘must do’ is the big catch here. It is certain that we are all doing something, but the question is, are we doing what we MUST do or what we like to do?

Please pray that the Lord will give you the courage to ask like Saul, - “Lord, what do You want me to do" and that He will graciously respond to you, and send you your Ananias.

Make a move!

The phrase 'Make a move', happens to be the title of one of my favourite Nigerian movies. For the first time in a long while, I had to watch our movie from the edge of my seat. Ivie Okujaye killed it, especially considering the fact that she’s relatively new in the industry. Well, professional movie critics think otherwise, but that's fine. They can keep their opinions.😏
‘Make a move’, apart from being one of my favourite movie titles, always leaves a pulsating tinge on me.

Yeah, that teaser is just so you know I watch movies tooπŸ˜…πŸ˜…. Have you noticed that a lot of us Christians are full of excuses? There’s always a reason why we are not doing exploits, breaking new grounds in our respective fields, blazing a trail...reaching our dreams! The most pathetic part is when some of us begin to accuse other successful people of having joined occults, washed their faces at Ugwu-di-nso (holy hill), waterside etc.

I had a fresh encounter with 2 King 7 again recently. Prophet Elisha had just given an unfathomable prophesy about the restoration of Samaria. The ravaged (by famine) city of Samaria was going to receive such turn around that a man said, "Look, if the Lord would make windows in heaven, could this thing be?” 2 King 7:2 NKJV

That’s how powerful the prophesy was, yet it needed a MOVE to bring it to accomplishment. The four lepers at the gate decided to take their chances, and made the move that would turn around their lives and the lives of everyone else in that city. It was sound from the feeble steps of four sick men who were afraid for their own lives that God amplified to the howling noise of a great army.

For the Lord had caused the army of the Syrians to hear the noise of chariots and the noise of horses—the noise of a great army; so they said to one another, “Look, the king of Israel has hired against us the kings of the Hittites and the kings of the Egyptians to attack us!” 2 Kings 7:6 NKJV

There are prophecies that are waiting for us to move; waiting for us to activate them by stepping out in faith. There are mountains that we have been ‘called' to conquer.
You never know how much God will magnify your small steps until you step out.

Go...! Make a move!

Beyond the rat race

I found this book title (Beyond the rat race) quite intriguing the first time I happened upon it online. I mused over some of the author‘s highlights for a long time. It took me to the parable of the rich fool in Luke 12:15-21.

So, this rich man made it to Forbes list of 10 richest men in the world; he could afford everything that money could buy. He thought he had ‘arrived’ as we almost all aspire to. He must have thrown a big bash to celebrate his wealth, with friends and even foes waltzing around him.

Suddenly, his Owner says, “stop the music; the dancing...the party is over”. 😱 Would you have thought that such a big man was also owned? Yeah, there are people who sometimes appear so formidable that we think they are not owned by God.

Back to the rich fool. Why did his Owner stop the party? God wasn’t angry at his being rich and famous. God was disappointed because he wasn’t rich in anything of eternal relevance....he wasn’t rich towards God.

But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?’ “So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.” Luke 12:20-21

Dear friend, what is the reason behind your racing up and down, working round the clock and chasing after business and career opportunities?  Is it so that your barn will be full or so that you will be rich towards God?

While we struggle to lay up treasures for ourselves, please let us do all that is within us to be rich towards God.

As occasion demands...

It’s amazing to note all that the Holy Spirit is given to us for. When our Lord Jesus made us the promise of the Comforter, He meant much more than Someone who pats us in the back and says ‘stop crying, I will help you’. The Greek word Parakletos is the primary word for the Holy Spirit. It’s translated to mean all of the following – Advocate, Comforter, Helper, Counsellor, Intercessor, Strengthener and STANDBY.

Saul’s encounter with the person of the Holy Spirit is one clear indication that there’s so much we ought to be doing by the Holy Spirit. And yes, the person of the Holy Spirit existed in the old testament only that then, He came upon people while in the dispensation of the new covenant, He lives in us. Anyway, that’s the subject of another day.

So, Saul met prophet Samuel who prophesied and said to him, that the Holy Spirit will come upon him and He will be turned into another. The Bible further explains what it means to be turned into another man- you will do as occasion demands.

Doing as occasion demands means having a ready solution for every situation. It means walking in and working out our dominion over every situation. If Saul could get to that level by the Spirit upon, shouldn’t we be much more by the Spirit within?

Then the Spirit of the Lord will come upon you, and you will prophesy with them and be turned into another man. And let it be, when these signs come to you, that you do as the occasion demands; for God is with you. (1 Samuel 10:6-7).

A brother of mine was trying to give me the description to a certain place and said, “if you can’t find it, use your divine compass”. It should have been a joke but I thought of it for a long time. ‘Use your divine compass’. The Holy Spirit is amongst many Supernatural manifestations, our Divine Compass; to guide and direct!

I believe that if we allow the Holy Spirit indwell us as He desires, we will be empowered to ALWAYS do as occasion demands.

Lord, have Your way in my life.

My aunty Tada Eareckson and I

My life is marked with so many remarkable stop overs. I call them remarkable today because it was at some of those bus-stations that I found the will to continue in my journey. At every one of these stops, I would always meet people who seem to have been planted there in anticipation of my arrival. They would share their lives’ stories or stories of other people’s struggles and quite often too, they would point me to some powerful verses of Scripture.

It was on one of those stops that I met Joni Eareckson Tada. She was at this particular bus-station, seated gracefully in what she now calls a wheel chair. She asked me to try and join the Bus again, that in spite of its seeming sluggish movement, it was sure to get to the ‘expected end’. I tried to tell her that the Bus wasn’t comfortable, that the seats were wobbly and that the Driver didn’t know how to make the right turns. Aunty Tada (in my part of Africa, an 'aunty' could be a female mentor whom you love and respect) laughed and said, “the seats will no longer be wobbly if you know how to sit on them. She shared with me, how through her own Bus ride, she was able to write life transforming books. I was surprised because she’s quadriplegic (having both arms and legs paralysed). She told me of her award winning paintings. And I asked how…w? She said, “I hold my pencil with my teeth and paint”. I was shocked!

Aunty Tada is one amazing person you should meet. You know what, she didn’t start out like that. She was involved in a diving accident that affected her spin when she was 17. She told me that going through the pains was horrific but when she found Jesus and some good friends who helped her read James 1:2-4 differently, everything changed. So, while at the bus station, confused and afraid, she shared some life changing notes with me from her book *Pearls of Great Price*. I was strengthened. I made a decision to jump back into the Bus. It’s been 50 years since the unfortunate incident that confined her to a wheel chair and this is what she has to say-
What a difference time makes—as well as prayer, heaven-minded friends, and
study of God’s Word. All combined, I began to see there are more important things in life than walking and having use of your hands. It sounds incredible, but I really would rather be in this wheelchair knowing Jesus as I do than be on my feet without him. But whenever I try to explain it, I hardly know where to begin. “God permits what he hates to accomplish what he loves.”

Friend, I don’t know what it is you are going through today, but you can draw strength from Aunty Tada’s testimony. The Lord has you in His plans and His thoughts for you are good! Don’t let the devil lie to you; we are created for much more! Yes, the Bus may not be moving as you wish but the Driver knows your destination and He’ll take you safely there. Jesus loves you!
